Quandify enters collaboration with Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster
In collaboration with Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster AB – a part of Länsförsäkringar also known as Alf – Quandify has developed the smart water meter with leak detection, Water Grip. With the combined experience of one of Sweden’s largest insurance groups, they understand the devastating effects that water damage can have on homes, properties, and the environment. “Water Grip has the potential to significantly reduce the risk of water damage,” says Thomas Skoglund, Chief Product Officer at Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster.
Länsförsäkringar has over 3.9 million customers across Sweden, where water damage is the most common type of damage in Swedish homes. As part of Länsförsäkringar’s efforts to enhance the protection of its customers’ homes, a collaboration between Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster and Quandify began in 2022.
Based on the challenges and issues identified by Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster, Quandify has developed a solution—the market’s smallest water meter and leak detector with precise accuracy and smart ultrasonic technology. Water Grip is designed for easy installation, even on hard-to-reach pipes, and is suitable for everything from villas to apartments and holiday homes.
Since Water Grip is non-invasive, neither a plumber nor a DIY expert is needed for installation. The smart water meter is easily attached to the pipe and alerts at the slightest leak.
“We see great potential in Water Grip when it comes to helping our customers reduce the risk of extensive water damage.”
- Thomas Skoglund, CPO at Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster
Water damage is the most common insurance claim
In 2023, 35,000 water damage incidents were reported in villas and summer houses in Sweden. In total, these have cost nearly 5 billion SEK in insurance payouts. At the same time, the costs continue to rise year after year. Despite this, relatively few Swedish households have a leak detector.
“With a leak detector, many water damage incidents can be easily prevented, avoiding both the high costs and the carbon emissions associated with renovations.”
Water Grip: From idea to innovation
Länsförsäkringar Trygghetstjänster has been involved during the development phase of Water Grip—from the idea stage to prototype development and testing—to ensure that the products are optimized to meet customer needs.
Water Grip uses ultrasonic technology to quickly detect leaks in pipes. Compared to a simple water sensor on the floor, Water Grip can therefore provide an early warning before a leak occurs. It also measures temperature, which allows it to warn about corrosion and freezing—two of the main causes of pipe breakage. In addition, it measures water flow, increasing awareness of water consumption.
“Quandify has been attentive throughout the process. They have the expertise needed to minimize water leaks,” concludes Thomas Skoglund.
